Stratex enables the linking of initiatives through the relationships feature. This capability enhances the coordination and efficiency of project management processes, particularly in setting prerequisites, establishing parent-child relationships, linking initiatives, and optimizing budgeting and monitoring activities.

Key Concepts

Initiative relationship types:

  • Parent / Child

    • A parent initiative is one from which other initiatives will inherit or certain properties. For example, a budget pool is a parent to each individual expenditure item within the pool (which are all child initiatives).

    • A child initiative is one that relies on certain properties from a parent initiative e.g. a budget request is a child within a budget pool (parent).

    • This relationship type is defined on the Child and displayed on the Parent initiative.

  • Dependent on / Pre-requisite For

    • An initiative may only be feasible after initiation of another initiative, hence Stratex incorporates a ‘dependent on’ relationship into initiative linking.

    • This relationship type is defined on the Dependent initiative and displayed on the Pre-requisite initiative.

  • Incompatible

    • Some initiatives may be incompatible with each other e.g. opposing initiatives within the same budget pool that require significant capital outlays may not be viable simultaneously. Stratex facilitates this through its ‘Incompatible with’ relationship option.

    • This relationship type is defined exclusively on the impacted initiative.

  • Related To

    • An initiative is related to another initiative, but there are no inter-dependencies. These relationships are displayed and editable from either related initiative.

Instructions

From the idea stage onwards, once an initiative is saved, a relationship can be set for an initiative using the link icon.

  1. Save Initiative: From the initial idea stage onward, once an initiative is saved in Stratex, navigate to the relationships using the link icon image-20240624-090139.png .

  2. Maintain Relationships: In the relationships pop-up dialog, select the appropriate relationship (e.g., parent-child, dependent on, incompatible with, related to, prerequisite for).

  3. Initiative Selection: Choose the other initiative involved in the relationship and update the pop-up to establish the linkage. You can find the related initiative by entering the initiative ID or description.

  4. Delete relationships: Some relationships (i.e. Child and Pre-requisite) can only be removed by accessing the sub-ordinate initiative.

An initiative in Stratex can only have one parent. Only Pool initiatives can be Parents.

Stratex does not enforce relationships during the budgeting or approval processes.

An initiative must be saved as Draft before its relationships can be defined.
